“Improv in the Sanctuary”
(on Zoom)
Thursdays at 7:30pm
Malibu United Methodist Church’s beloved icon, Carrie Thie, after taking her first improv class, announced, “…and here I thought that improv was all about putting on big clown feet and acting silly. Oh boy. My brain hasn’t worked like this since I don’t know when.”
Improvise, from the word improvisus (Latin, 1820-1830), means “to see before, to provide for a future circumstance”. For eons, storytellers sought the safety of church sanctuaries to provide audiences with wild tales of future circumstance, of stories spun from an ability to see before.
We welcome you to our sanctuary where you will safely experience improv’s powerful, ancient techniques. Watch what happens when improv lights up your brain with new neural pathways which provide frameworks for stories you’ve longed to tell—tales of future circumstances spun from the time when you knew how to see before.
The only thing more fun than stories told from hearts wild to tell is the laughter—the sheer delight—that comes with the telling: that’s your brain on improv. Big clown feet, indeed.
—SUSIE DUFF, Teacher, Actor, Director, Mom
